FUTURE POSSIBILITIES FOR KIDS (FPK)
Future Possibilities for Kids provides programs that coach children to believe in themselves and lead community change.
CHALLENGE
Future Possibilities for Kids (FPK) is an organization dedicated to Kids shining as leaders. Since 2001, over 5,000 young people have participated in their programs where their voices and interests are prioritized as they create and lead community-based projects, supported by caring youth and adults. FPK serves communities where there are limited opportunities for children and youth to access high quality, free-of-charge programming, whether that is due to financial barriers or program availability. In their programs, children report feeling more confident and connected to others through leading community change. As children and the community at large are all positively impacted, Kids become champions of hope and change.
INNOVATION
FPK uses a coaching-based model to support Kids to believe in themselves and lead community change. In their flagship, Ready, Set, Goal! program, Kids are matched with a trained adult volunteer called a KidCoach. Over six months, Kids and KidCoaches connected weekly on the phone and during four virtual Activity Days, as Kids work towards a community service project called a Goal of Contribution. The Goal of Contribution benefits a child’s community, such as an anti-bullying campaign, and creating e-cards to uplift cancer treatment patients. While their goals are worth celebrating, FPK also celebrates the journey of goal-setting, building confidence, and developing and realizing the leadership potential of every child.
